Halibut Championships 2021

Here at Saltwater we are always on the lookout for new angling competitions and this one is an absolute cracker. It doesn’t take place until 2021 but because of the nature of this one we wanted to get the build-up going as soon as possible.

The setting

In July 2021 Sportquest Holidays are holding the first ever Sportquest Holidays Halibut Championships on the Lofoten Islands in Norway. This event is going to be phenomenal as they are taking over the whole camp at one of northern Norway’s most prolific halibut destinations, the camp of Å. This camp is world famous for the many two metre plus halibut caught here each year by the visiting anglers. The beautiful Lofoten Islands, and especially the camp of Å, are consistent year in year out for the numbers of monster halibut caught. July is one of the best months for jumbo halibut and they reckon this is the best place and time to hold the competition. The Å camp has some of the best facilities that you will find in northern Norway with very good boats and cabins as well as some of the best fishing you will find in Norwegian waters. If catching massive fish in some of the planets most breath-taking surroundings is your thing then you will be mad to miss out on this competition.

The Competition

This competition is open to boat teams of four anglers and is going to be a two-day competition taking place on the 4-5thJuly. There will be a total of 9nine teams of four competing in this competition which is strictly catch and release with each halibut being caught having to be photographed in full with a ruler that is provided measuring from the top of the head to the tail. At the end of each day there will be a time cut-off point for you to enter your photographic evidence to the organisers and, once your catches are verified, they will be added to your teams score chart.

The Prizes

The prizes for this competition are massive with the 1stprize for the team event being an astronomical ÂŁ4,000. This is for the overall combined length of all the halibut caught in your boat over the two days. They are also offering the outstanding prize of ÂŁ1,000 for the individual biggest halibut caught over the two days. As well as this there will be many other prizes for the anglers fishing this competition, including rods and reels.
